Chievo Verona have announced that their new first team coach is former Catania boss Rolando Maran.

After a string of poor results, they have picked up just four points from their first seven games, Eugenio Corini was shown his marching orders by the Veronese club on Sunday evening.

And they have moved quickly to replace him with Maran coming in on a deal until the end of the current campaign with the option of a one year extension should he impress at the Bentegodi.

Maran said of the new job: “This is a great emotion for me to be named Chievo boss. It is a double joy because I had most of my playing career [nine years] here. Now I return as coach and I hope to relive the emotions I felt during those years.

“Why did I take the Chievo job? After talking to the president and sporting director, I have found a great harmony and desire to achieve our goals. I think we can work well together.”

Maran moved to Chievo Verona as a player in summer of 1986 from Benacense while the Gialloblu were in Serie C2.

He made 330 appearances for the club in his time there, much of them wearing the captain’s armband and is the fifth highest appearance maker in the club’s history.
