Genoa defeated Parma 2-1 at the Stadio Ennio Tardini on Sunday afternoon in Serie A action.

Second half goals from Diego Perotti and Alessandro Matri gave the ten-men Grifone the points following Facundo Roncaglia’s dismissal, mounting the pressure on struggling Parma coach Roberto Donadoni who had equalized with Massimo Coda.

Genoa had the best opportunity to open the scoring after 10 minutes when the ball found its way to Perotti wide on the left flank. He cut it back to Matri inside the six yard box, but the forward could not hit the target under pressure from the Parma defence.

Coda had a weak effort saved by Mattia Perin as the Gialloblu found their rhythm and controlled play inside the Genoa half as Coda had another effort blocked by Sebastian De Maio in the box.

Matri should have done better when Perotti crossed to find the 30-year-old again but he volleyed wide when he should have tested Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante.

Tomas Rincon had a shot saved from distance as Genoa came back into the encounter before Antonio Cassano scuffed an attempt on the Genoa goal.

Coda forced Perin into a save with a shot on the edge of the penalty area with the goalkeeper doing well to get a hand to it, although the shot appeared to be curling wide of the post.

Jose Mauri was unlucky not to open the scoring moments before half time as his curling effort sailed just wide of Perin’s top corner.

Andrea Bertolacci could have scored for the away side shortly after half time following a clever one-two pass but he shot just past the far post.

Genoa’s pressure after the interval paid off as the Grifone took the lead through Perotti in the 53rd minute when the Argentinian cut in from the wing before darting into the box and firing past Mirante.

Roncaglia gave Parma a life line as the 27-year-old Argentinian was sent off in the 55th minute for a second bookable offence following a needless handball.

Mirante kept his side in the match and blocked a seemingly unstoppable Perotti effort on the line but Parma made the most of their extra man and equalized following a free kick as Massimo Gobbi crossed to find Coda with space inside the six yard box, as the forward calmly chested the ball into the back of the net.

Parma fought for a winner and came close through Lucas Souza who fired just over but could not find a winner despite sustained pressure in the Genoa half.

Against the run of play Genoa got a winner in the final minute of stoppage time as Rincon found Matri outside the box and the forward coolly slotted the ball under Mirante to give all three point to the Grifone.

This result will see pressure continue to mount for Parma coach Roberto Donadoni as his side remain near the foot of the table after just one victory from their opening six encounters.
