Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has hit out at Italy coach Antonio Conte after the tactician opted not to call any of his players up to the recent Italian national team.

Despite enjoying one of their best starts to date that sees them in third place, the new Azzurri coach did not look to the Blucerchiati when deciding who to field for the squad’s most recent EURO 2016 qualifying clashes.

“Well, I’d like to thank Conte for not selecting any of my players, despite our being in third place in the league,” he sarcastically noted during his pre-match press conference.

“Then again, [I suppose one could say] that it allowed us to focus on training in the best possible way during the international break.

“In any case, I think that there are several players here at Sampdoria who could have been of use to him, but I’m sure he knows more about that than I do so I won’t discuss how and why he makes his decisions.

“However, I’d definitely like to invite him to our training ground so he can see [their merits] for himself.”

Sampdoria will hope to continue their great run that sees them currently unbeaten thus far as they take on Cagliari on Sunday.
