Udinese striker Cyril Thereau has admitted that his team deserved their home draw with Cesena on Sunday, though he feels the hosts could have held on to their lead a bit longer to secure all three points.

The Zebrette had managed to keep a 1-0 lead for most of the second half after a goal from Bruno Fernandes in the 62nd minute, but conceded a penalty in stoppage time that allowed the Seahorses to score a tying goal, which Thereau believes could have been prevented.

Thereau spoke to Udinese Channel after the draw about the home side’s performance against Cesena and commented on how they could have earned a better result, while also pointing out Udinese’s unbeaten streak at the Stadio Friuli this season.

“I think it was an open game, because they also had scoring chances,” said the 31-year-old. “So we can say that the draw is right, even though it is hard to concede a goal in the final minutes.

“If we would have let a goal in earlier, it could have been different. However, we have still earned 10 points in our four home matches thus far.

“We could have put a close on the game earlier, but we suffered with out counter-attacks. We had some good chances to close, like some that I had which were saved by their goalkeeper, who did very good.”
