Hellas Verona forward Luca Toni has backed Roma to surprise the pundits in their Champions League group clash against Bayern Munich.
The German giants make the trip to the Stadio Olimpico for the tie, which Toni says will an advantage the Giallorossi have over the visitors.
“The heat of the Stadio Olimpico can help the Giallorossi,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“Roma is a difficult place to play in especially now that there is so much enthusiasm for the return on the Champions League, and the excellent form of the team.
“On paper, the Bayern is more used to playing these games, but the intimidating environment could be a point in favour of Rome.”
Talking about the Champions League overall, Toni highlighted the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona as the obvious favourites, but backed the Italian teams to shine.
“I think the favourites are always the same: Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, but also Roma and Juventus can have their say because they are great teams,” he said.
