Trofeo-Berlusconi-2014Only 5,000 fans watched AC Milan beat Argentinean side San Lorenzo 2-0 in the Trofeo Berlusconi.

On the pitch goals from Giampaolo Pazzini and Giacomo Bonaventura were enough for the Rossoneri to beat the side from Buenos Aires.

Often the Trofeo Berlusconi takes place in August before the Serie A season starts and is normally played in front of a huge crowd at the San Siro, with a high of 76,697 in 1997, while even in 2011 the attendance was 41,302.

The small turn out will be disappointing for those in charge at Milan, as without European football this season the Rossoneri would have been looking for a big turnout in order to raise funds.

Normally Milan take on fellow Italian giants Juventus in the Trofeo Berlusconi but in the 23rd edition they faced San Lorenzo, considered one of the five great teams in Argentinian football.

The competition was founded by Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi in memory of his father Luigi, and was originally intended to be contested between the Rossoneri and the Champions League winners of that season.

Current Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi is the top scorer in the competition’s history with seven goals.
