Fiorentina and PAOK played to a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Thursday night in Europa League action.

Maarten Martens gave the Aspromavroi the lead ten minutes from time, before Viola skipper Manuel Pasqual equalised through a sublime free-kick seven minutes later.

Mario Gomez came close to opening the scoring only six minutes in, but his attempted chip was easily saved by Panagiotis Glykos.

The Viola then had a penalty appeal turned down by referee Sebastien Deliferiere; Jasmin Kurtic clashed with Glykos inside the area, but the French referee waved for play to continue.

Juan Cuadrado managed to put Gomez through on goal, but the German international was unable to guide his finish past Glykos.

It was the turn of Gonzalo Rodriguez to test the Greek side, but his acrobatic attempt was saved by the PAOK goalkeeper.

Fiorentina skipper Pasqual should’ve made it 1-0 towards the end of the half, but failed to latch onto a cross from the right-hand side.

Fiorentina came close to scoring once again 25 minutes into the second half; this time Kurtic picked out Gomez on the edge of the box, but the former Bayern Munich man squandered his chance.

It was David Pizarro who tried his luck next as the former Roma midfielder attempted a strike from distance, but it was easily saved by Glykos.

Giorgios Katsikas rescued the Greek side from conceding when he managed to clear Pasqual’s dangerous cross from the left-hand side.

The Aspromavroi had their opening goal ten minutes from time through Maarten Martens, after a great run by Eyal Golasa down the right flank.

However, the Greek side were dealt a blow three minutes from time when Pasqual’s sublime free-kick found the top corner – much to the ecstasy of the Fiorentina faithful.

Vincenzo Montella’s men attempted to grab a winner late on, but Juan Cuadrado’s thunderous strike was blocked by the resilient PAOK defence.
