Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne offered his gratitude to Napoli fans for supporting him as he recovers from knee surgery.
The Italy international tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the right knee during Napoli’s 1-0 win over Fiorentina last Sunday and underwent surgery that could see him ruled out for six months.
“These are the most difficult days of my career,”the 23-year-old told Tuttomercatoweb.com.
“But this injury has also given me the opportunity to fully understand and feel the warmth of all the people who have shown me love, especially the Napoli fans.
I received many beautiful messages of support that will give me even more courage and determination to return to the field stronger than before.
“In the meantime, I will remain close to the group and will be supporting the team and shouting as I’ve always done since I was a boy: Forza Napoli!”
Insigne had started in nine of Napoli’s 11 Serie A games so far this season, and was set to be named in Antonio Conte’s squad for Italy’s upcoming Euro 2016 qualifier against Croatia, recently extended his contract with Napoli until June 2019.
