Sampdoria defender Djamel Mesbah believes the Blucerchiati can make a push for the third Champions League spot this season.

The Algerian spoke about the determination in the squad to bounce back and return to winning ways following their first Serie A defeat of the season in midweek, which came at the hands of Inter courtesy of a 90th minute Mauro Icardi penalty.

“We wanted to redeem the undeserved slip up against Inter,” he told RiportaSampdoria.it after Sunday’s 3-1 win over Fiorentina.

“We feel we have really sent a signal to the league and if we keep playing like this then we can stay at the top.”

The 30-year-old took the time to praise the coaching skills of Sinisa Mihajlovic and the part he has played in their current form.

“Mihajlovic gives us an incredible charge, he gives us all confidence and takes every area of the team into account.”

Before concluding, Mesbah stated that he believed Samp could challenge for the third and final Champions League spot come the end of the season.

“We want to be careful, we do not want to make the mistake of not remaining down to earth.

“Roma and Juventus will not be challenged but we are looking to fight for Europe.”

Mebah has featured six times in Serie A for Samp this season.
