Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella conceded his team must improve if they are to enjoy a successful season, and didn’t exploit their chances against Sampdoria.

The Viola lost 3-1 to Sampdoria on Sunday in Serie A. Stefan Savic scored the only goal for La Viola, in-between strikes from Angelo Palombo and Luca Rizzo. Eder then added a third in the final 15 minutes for Samp.

“At 2-1 we had a few occasions where we weren’t good at exploiting our opportunities,”the coach said speaking to Sky Sport Italia after the game. “Sampdoria were careful, orderly, and played in a different way, but tactically we played the game well.”

German forward Mario Gomez made a late substitute appearance following an injury lay off.

“He has trained with us for the past 4-5 days and is recovering well,” Montella continued.

He refused to blame penalty appeals for Alberto Aquilani as an excuse for the loss.

“It is an isolated incident,  like the second goal we conceded. At the end of the day we need to improve the performances.”

Fiorentina will hope to bounce back to winning ways in their next Serie A game against Napoli.
