Sampdoria midfielder Angelo Palombo believes that his team deserved their impressive 3-1 victory over Fiorentina on Sunday and admits that coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has helped the club a lot with its recent success.

The 33-year-old, who scored a penalty for the Blucerchiati to take the lead in the first half, is happy to see La Samp in third place in the Serie A standings after their home win against the Viola but admits that it’s still too early to determine whether or not the team can secure a spot in Europe next season.

Palombo spoke to Mediaset Premium after the victory about Sampdoria’s performances this campaign thus far and praised Mihajlovic, while also commenting on the club’s desire to please president Massimo Ferrero.

“I believe that success is the merit of all, just like it’s also everyone’s fault when you lose,” said the Sampdoria vice-captain. “We did very well against Fiorentina, I think it was a well-deserved victory.

“Mihajlovic has made a huge contribution to this team, we were having a lot of trouble in our defence and it was great to change our form.

“Ferrero? He is happy to be the president of Sampdoria, he’s a very sunny person who gives happiness to all of us. He carries us, so we are happy to make him so pleased.

“We’re still not thinking about making it to Europe, we have to play every game as a final. We’ll see what happens at the end of the season.

“The city of Genoa happy with the performances of its two teams? I would prefer if Genoa were not so high in the standings,” he joked.

“However, we only think of ourselves and want to continue to do well.”
