Inter and Roma have played out some sensational and breathless affairs in the past, and are set to write a new chapter of their tense games on Sunday as they face one another at the Stadio Olimpico.
ForzaItalianFootball.com brings you a selection of the top five games between the blue and black side of Milan, and the red and gold side of Rome.
Roma 4–5 Inter (March 5 1999)
In probably one of the most iconic and breathless games between both clubs, the Nerazzurri — led by Ronaldo and Ivan Zamorano — were able to overcome the triumvirate of Paulo Sergio, Francesco Totti and Marco Delvecchio.
Ronaldo gave the visitors the lead, before Zamorano made it 2–0 only five minutes later. Totti managed to pull one back for the hosts but Zamorano put the ball in the Inter net once more to take the score to 3–1.
However, Roma mounted a comeback and three minutes after the restart they’d made it 3–3 when Paulo Sergio and Delvecchio scored a goal each. Their joys did not last though, as Ronaldo scored his second of the game to put Inter back in the lead. Eusebio Di Francesco’s calm finish 12 minutes from time made it 4–4, but it was Diego Simeone who decided the encounter three minutes from time to cap off a memorable game between the two giants.
