Sampdoria bounced back from suffering their first league defeat in midweek by beating Fiorentina 3-1 in an entertaining encounter.

Angelo Palombo and Luca Rizzo but the home side 2-0 up before Stefan Savic pulled one back for the Viola. Eder made the points safe with a fine solo goal in the last 15 minutes.

It was an open start to the game with both teams looking to attack from the beginning. In form Khouma Babacar went close for the visitors whilst Roberto Soriano nearly opened the scoring for Sampdoria.

Blucerchiati captain Palombo opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 27th minute, calmly slotting the ball in the bottom right corner.

However Palombo was soon to be the villain as he clumsily fouled Babacar in the box straight after.

Gonzalo Rodriguez stepped up to take the penaly but his shot was saved by Sergio Romero. It was a tame effort from the Argentine.

Fiorentina began to dominate possession after the half hour mark but were struggling to create any clear cut chances.

Babacar tested Romero on the counter in the 41st minute but it was easily saved. Straight afterwards midfielder Rizzo doubled the advantage for Sampdoria.

A cross was deflcted to him from the edge of the box, he feinted to shoot  before beating a defender and shot low towards goal. It was a precise effort but Neto will be disappointed at being caught out at his near post.

However the Viola were immediately back in the game when Savic headed in Borja Valero’s cross. The former Manchester City defender was completely unmarked in the box to head home.

Stefano Okaka then prodded home from close range just before half time but the whistle had already gone for a foul.

Fiorentina began the second half in determined fashion and were pressing high up the pitch. Babacar had a free kick in the 52nd minute but it saved and then Josip Illicic wriggled past a couple of defenders in the box before being crowded out.

Sampdoria finally began to have some of the ball around the hour mark. Angelo Palombo had a free kick that curled wide and then a volley inside the penalty area was blocked by the Fiorentina defence.

Babacar had a golden opportunity in the 63rd minute but he scuffed his effort from six yards out. His shot appeared to strike the arm of the Sampdoria defender but no penalty was awarded. It would have been a soft decision if given.

Juan Cuadrado went on a dribble down the right flank and flashed in a low cross across te face of goal. The Columbian was having a quiet game and made way for Mario Gomez in the 69th minute. The German immediately tested Romero but it was a comfortable save.

However Sampdoria made the game safe in the 77th minute, subsitute Eder picked up the ball inside his own half, dribbled past three defenders before slotting home. It was an outstanding individual goal from the Brazilian.

Fiorentina tried in vain to get back in the game but the home team saw the match out with relative ease.
