Swansea City’s Fernandez wanted to stay at Napoli

Fernandez - SwanseaSwansea City defender Federico Fernandez has revealed that he wanted to stay at Napoli before decided to leave Wales in the summer.

The 25-year-old joined the Premier League side for an undisclosed fee after three years at the Stadio San Paolo, but does not regret the transfer at all.

“I was fine at Napoli, especially last year with the coach [Rafa Benitez], then came this opportunity,” Fernandez told Gianlucadimarzio.com

“I thought about it carefully, it was not easy as I talked to everyone, as well as the coach.

Having come through the youth ranks at Estudiantes, the Argentinian joined Napoli for  €2.5 million. making 57 appearances for the Azzurri in all competitions.

“I wanted to understand the situation before I decided, and we found a solution for everyone,” he continued.

“You have to take advantage of these great opportunities, I wanted to stay but we chose together.

Fernandez has made seven appearances for Swansea, as they sit an impressive sixth in the Premier League after 10 games.
