Inter president Erick Thohir believes that without enthusiasm Roberto Mancini wouldn’t have signed for the club and that he is thrilled with the three year deal he penned last week.

Mancini replaced outgoing coach Walter Mazzarri after 17 months in charge at the San Siro and faces his second spell in charge of the club in arguably tougher circumstances than previously.

Thohir said when asked if Mancini was as thrilled as when he first took over ten years ago, “If it were not, he would not sign a three-year contract with us,” the Inter president said.

“He understood the situation of the club very well. Our goals? They remain the same as those we set for Mazzarri. Qualifying for the next European Cups.” he continued.

“The minimum goal is the Europa League, which now provides the transition to the next Champions League. I do not want heroics.

“I will give Mancini as long as possible to build this team in order to achieve the ideal level of stability. Mancini knows exactly what to do.”

Although Thohir is clearly elated by the appointment of Mancini he also has reservations and accepts that the appointment of the former Manchester City boss comes under Financial Fair Play.

The president also believes that the stability of the club is just as important as any new recruits that the new boss may have his eye on.

“If we go back into the market? All options are open. Let’s wait what will be requested by Mancini. However, we must also pay attention to the welfare of the club, which is just as important.”
