Roma captain Francisco Totti feels that the Ballon d’Or should be won by a German, despite the continued amazing form of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

With his hometown club struggling for form recently Totti was quick to dismiss the emphatic loss in Rome against Bayern Munich and instead turned the focus onto the current crop of German players.

Meeting with German broadcasters Sky Sport News he told reporters briefly about his admiration for the German players in the Bavarian side and thinks it should translate into a Ballon D’Or win for one of them.

“Messi and Ronaldo should win each year, but definitely this year it should be a German player to win, having won the World Cup,” he said.

When asked to give a review of German strikers showcasing their trade in Italy he added: “Miroslav Klose is a professional and a great striker. Mario Gomez? A very strong player, he always manages to make a difference in the game.”

Inevitably, the Roma captain turned to his future, adding how he stay committed to the decision to remain in Rome, a commitment which has seen him make over 700 appearances for the Giallorossi, and his plans for the future:

“I made a choice with the heart, a decision shared with myself and with all my friends and family. Future? The years pass, and unfortunately everything must end, but I must remember that these are my last few seasons as a player, and live with passion. That’s the most important thing.”

When pressed to share his retirement plans he said: “I will remain in the American project, the Roma project. It’s a beautiful vision, certainly one that I like.”

Current Roma President James Pallotta echoed sentiments shared by Totti as he stated recently during an interview with CNN that, “Totti will remain with us forever. He will decide which role he will play. I would love for him to be an Ambassador for the club. We would like it to continue on the pitch to explain what is Roma, especially for young people, for our image”.

The legendary forward’s current contract runs out in June 2016, he signed a two-year contract extension in September 2013.
