Former Hellas Verona striker Antonio De Vitis has said that Argentine striker Javier Saviola does not suit the 4-3-3 formation used by Andrea Mandorlini.

The striker who played for the Gialloblu from 1995-1999 was asked if Saviola could play alongside Luca Toni in the Hellas Verona attack but his response was that it depends on how Mandorlini sets his team up.

“His qualities are not debatable but if he doesn’t play, there is a reason for it,” De Vitis told TuttoMercatoWeb.

“Evidently he hasn’t been able to enter games in good condition or perhaps the acclimatisation is much longer and difficult than expected. To judge from the outside is not easy.

“I believe that if the players are strong in one way or another, they can succeed in making everybody [involved] co-exist.

“It is also true that Mandorlini plays with the 4-3-3 and in this formation the presence of both is not used a lot, then there is also the tactical sphere to consider.”
