Genoa defender Nicolas Burdisso explained his reasons as to why he left Roma to join the Grifone earlier this year.

Burdisso left the Giallorossi to join Genoa on a free transfer in January this year, and faces his former club this weekend in what is expected to be a thrilling match.

The 33-year-old Argentinian international has been in great form this season, with his performances at the back a huge reason as to why Genoa currently occupy third place in the Serie A table.

“I chose to move away from Roma because I wanted to play more and I felt that I still had so much to give,” Burdisso told the official Genoa website.

I did not want to settle for fifteen games a year. I am proud that I left the club on good terms with everyone.

“I chose Genoa and I’m happy. We are a quality team, there is a positive environment, a group that works with enthusiasm.

“The match against Roma? Roma are a Scudetto quality team and I hope that they achieve that goal. If we beat Lazio, Juventus and AC Milan, it means that we can play.”
