Fiorentina’s defender Micah Richards hopes to return to England’s national team one day.

The 26-year old made his debut for the Three Lions in 2006 but due to injuries in recent years he fell off Roy Hodgson’s radar and has not featured for his country since February 2012.

“When I was summoned for the first time, I was the youngest play to wear England’s shirt,” the Viola right-back said.

“I think that call came too soon in my career, since I was only 18 years old.

“With the shirt of [Manchester] City I played several good seasons, even though I had to improve from a tactical standpoint.”

Richards shared  his impression on the philosophy on young English players and expressed confidence that the experience he has under his belt will positively affect his potential future involvement with England.

“If the young English players perform well, they are treated well, but if things get worse, they are abandoned.

“If I was called up to the national team today, I would definitely do better than the last time I wore the shirt of the Three Lions.
