Roma coach Rudi Garcia is only focused on beating Manchester City on Wednesday night to secure the clubs presence in the Champions League knock out stages.

A draw at the Stadio Olympico could be enough to take the Giallorossi through (if CSKA Moscow fail to win at Bayern Munich) but the only permutation that will guarantee Roma’s safe passage is a victory over Manuel Pellegrini’s City.

“We can only think of winning, there’s nothing else we can do,” Garcia said at his press conference.

“If I had eleven defenders I would have deployed them all…(laughs).

“In truth, we need to be masters of our destiny as we don’t know what will happen between Bayern and CSKA.

“We have to focus on attacking City and aim for victory.”

Roma produced an excellent performance in the reverse fixture when Francesco Totti (becoming the competition’s oldest goalscorer) cancelled out Sergio Aguero’s early penalty to give the Italians a 1-1 draw in Manchester.

“We did well in our first meeting,” said Garcia.

“We’ve shown we can handle playing in a so-called ‘group of death’ like ours.

“City have recovered their form since then, but on this occasion, we play in front of our fans.

“This match is a final in many respects.”
