Palermo coach Giuseppe Iachini hopes his side can improve on their finishing after a needlessly narrow 2-1 victory over Sassuolo at Stadio Renzo Barbera on Saturday evening.

Palermo led the game early and played with a man advantage for the last half hour but wasted numerous chances to put the game to bed. The home side almost threw away two points when Leonardo Pavoletti equalised for Sassuolo, but Andrea Belotti spared Iachini’s blushes when he found the net in the 92nd minute.

“It’s [poor form in front of goal] one of our weaknesses, maybe because of the young age of our boys, we’re looking to improve on it,” Iachini told Sky Sport Italia.

“We’re creating plenty of chances, but the fact we’re making so many mistakes hurts us.”

Iachini was philosophical about the manner of the victory, which keeps his side in the top half of table.

“We take it one day at a time,” he continued. “We try to prepare for games with the right mentality, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

“I’m happy because we played a strong team, we needed a big performance to beat them.”

The 50-year-old also discussed the performance of the younger players in his team, particularly Andrea Belotti after his winner.

“He’s a very young lad, like Vasquez and Dybala. He needs time and and calm environment.”
