Juventus could be set to make a move for Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar with the Dutchman’s contract set to expire next June.

The Old Lady have been in the market for a defender as the Turin outfit seek to strengthen their defense having already expressed interest in FC Basel defender Fabian Schar.

Sportmediaset reports that Juventus director Guiseppe Marotta is set to make the 29-year-old his primary transfer target and could make a bid next month, with Villa willing to sell at a reduced price to avoid losing Vlaar on a free at the end of the present season.

The Bianconeri, however, face stiff competition with both Manchester United and Arsenal being tipped with a move for the robust stopper in recent months.

Vlaar’s stature has risen significantly since his performance at last summer’s World Cup finals in which he played a prominent role as the Netherlands reached the semi-final under the guidance of present Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.

He has 31 caps for the Dutch national side and has also featured for AZ and Feyenoord.
