Roberto Mancini Inter MilanInter coach Roberto Mancini was happy with his side’s performance during their tough test away to Qarabag in their final Europa League group match.

None of the starting 11 from the past weekend’s defeat to Udinese made the trip to Azerbaijan but an inexperienced Nerazzurri team managed to hold out for a 0-0 draw.

Mancini singled out Primavera squad members Isaac Donkor and Federico Bonazzoli for special praise with the former Manchester City boss believing he’s seeing improvements from his squad.

“It was a good battle on the pitch between the teams,” the 50-year-old told Fcinternews.

“We had players returning from injury but we also decided to the field some of our young charges.

“Donkor did very well, as did Bonazzoli, who even had an opportunity to score.

“Now we have to keep working to get better and better. Monday we play Chievo and we must now begin to prepare for that match as best we can.”

Mancini had sympathy for Qarabag, as the Azerbaijani champions controversially had a stoppage time winner ruled out for offside, which would have seen them join Inter in the last 32.

“Qarabag had other chances to win, if they had scored it would have changed the complexion of the game,” Mancini added.

“However, while they failed to qualify, I congratulate them for their performance.”
