Roma coach Rudi Garcia has hailed his squad for taking their opportunity to close the gap on Juventus, as the Giallorossi claimed a precious 1-0 victory over Genoa.

Radja Nainggolan’s fantastic volley was enough to give the Lupi a crucial win over the Grifone, and more important, move them just one point behind Juventus after the Bianconeri were held to a 1-1 draw with Sampdoria.

“We have seized the opportunity to [close the gap on Juventus] at the summit,” the French tactician stated to Sky Sport Italia following the match.

“It was a very difficult match for us but we could have doubled our advantage in the second half to give us a bit more breathing room.”

After crashing out of the Champions League due to a 2-0 defeat against Manchester City earlier this week, Garcia was also reflective on the team’s showings in European competition thus far.

“This season, playing in the Champions League meant that we were playing a match every three days. Besides, all the Italian teams that [are playing] in Europe have earned fewer points this time around.”

Roma will next turn their attention to AC Milan in their last Serie A fixture before the holiday break.
