Former Genoa midfielder Marco Rossi was quick to remind the people that sitting above city rivals Sampdoria in the Serie A table is nearly as sweet as his sides own achievements this campaign with them currently occupying a Champions League qualification birth.

The 36-year-old took up a role within the Grifone boardroom on his retirement last summer after nearly a decade with the club so is in an ideal position to comment on just what it means for the club to be outshining their neighbours.

“Being third is beautiful, for the people but also for Genoa,” Rossi told Sky Sport 24.

“As a Genoa player [it is also beautiful] because Sampdoria are under us.

“The match with Milan? It was won in all areas, we were better.

“Now I hope that this ranking is maintained, it is a good group, well built with good players, it is possible to get to the bottom.”
