Inter defender Alvaro Pereira looks like he will be heading back to the San Siro when his loan spell with Brazilian side Sao Paulo ends.

The 29-year-old Uruguayan joined the Tricolor in January on-loan after failing to impress during his time with the Nerazzurri since signing for €10 million in August 2012.

According to Sportitalia, a €7m fee was agreed between the clubs to be paid when Pereira completed his 18-month loan deal in June 2015, but the economic conditions of the South American club mean the deal is not likely to go ahead.

The former Porto man is now expected to return to the San Siro, but is not part of new coach Roberto Mancini’s plans, thus a new arrangement is now expected to be worked out, with Gremio a possible destination.

The full-back has made 63 appearances for the Uruguayan national team finding the net on six occasions since making his debut in November 2008.
