Slovenian national team coach Srecko Katanec is reportedly a possible candidate to take up the vacant assistant coach position at Inter.

The post has been vacant since the dismissal of Walter Mazzarri in mid-November, and newly appointed coach Roberto Mancini is reportedly interested in luring his former teammate.

According to Sport Mediaset, the main reasons behind Katanec’s nomination is that he has a strong resume, which includes qualification to Euro 2000 and the 2002 FIFA World Cup as coach of Slovenia, in addition to knowing Mancini personally from his days at Sampdoria between 1989 and 1994.

Katanec’s Slovenia narrowly missed out on a 2014 FIFA World Cup play-off place, and currently sit in second behind England in Group E of Euro 2016 qualification.
