AC Milan working on the futures of seven players

Ignazio Abate is close to agreeing a contract extension with AC Milan as the Rossoneri look to resolve the futures of seven players who are out of contract at the end of the season.

Tuttosport understands that the in-form right back is set to sign on for another three years at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza with the option of a forth.

Of those other players entering the final six months of their contracts it is believed that Daniele Bonera will be given a years extension while there is still some work to be done to secure Nigel de Jong’s services beyond July.

The Dutch midfielder has been offered a new two year deal worth €2 million per season, but the player is holding out for a three year contract with a €3 million annual salary.

Philippe Mexes and Giampaolo Pazzini have yet to be offered new terms and both players could follow Michael Essien out the club at the end of the current campaign. The Ghanaian veteran has already announced his intention to leave Milan and looks set for a move to either America or the Middle East.

Christian Abbiati, meanwhile is understood to be considering retirement.
