Lazio defender Dusan Basta has revealed that the Aqulotti are ready to fight hard against all upcoming opponents in order to keep their hold on third place and feels that his side should have won the Derby della Capitale.

The Biancocelesti currently sit in third place in the Serie A standings, leading their closest competition by just one point, after a 2-2 draw with Roma on Sunday and the 30-year-old believes his team should have capitalised on several missed chances to secure the win over their rivals, but is ready to move on to the next match without regret.

Basta spoke to Sky Sport Italia 24 ahead of Wednesday’s Coppa Italia clash with Torino about the derby result and what Lazio could have done better against the Giallorossi, while also commenting on his team’s mission to remain in third place for as long as possible.

“I think that Lazio deserved to win the derby against Roma,” said the Serbian international.

“We played an excellent game in the first half, leaving no space for Roma to play, but it was a shame to not be able to hold on in the second half. A similar thing happened against Inter as well.

“We had two very good chances to win, Stefano Mauri had hit the post and Miroslav Klose had a huge opportunity near the end, but it’s not worth whining about. What’s done is done, so we’ll let ourselves move forward.

“Third place? We’re already there. Other teams are close behind, so it will not be easy. Both of the Milan teams will move up the table.

“Napoli, Sampdoria and Fiorentina also have their own objectives. The traps are set everywhere, but we are willing to challenge everyone to stay in this position.”
