Atalanta are looking to strengthen their forward line, with the Bergamo side set to launch a bid for Fiorentina’s Mounir El Hamdaoui.

The Moroccan was loaned out to Malaga last season and has failed to earn a permanent spot on his return to Tuscany.

La Nazione report that not only would the Orobici like to sign the former Tottenham Hotspur man, but that he would be allowed to leave the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

El Hamdaoui has featured in just three games this season, scoring against Cesena before Christmas but is not thought to be coach Vincenzo Montella’s long term plans.

Although his contract is set to expire at the end of this season, it is likely that the Viola would allow the 2009 Eredivisie golden boot winner to leave during January, with a quick deal suiting both sides.

El Hamdaoui joined Fiorentina in 2012 from Ajax following the breakdown of his relationship with Frank de Boer.
