Roma coach Rudi Garcia has shown surprise in the fact that his skipper Francesco Totti has never won the prestigious Ballon D’Or trophy, awarded to the finest football player on the planet.

The French tactician was at yesterday’s lavish ceremony where Cristiano Ronaldo beat Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer to the illustrious accolade, which in 2010 became an amalgamation of the FIFA World Player of the Year and France Football’s Ballon D’Or awards.

“I thought about [Manual] Neuer, a fantastic goalkeeper but Cristiano Ronaldo has been the best player this year”, he told Mediaset. “It doesn’t seem right that Totti has never won it. Perhaps he had a chance in 2006 when he became a World Cup winner, but that’s how awards go sometimes.

“What matters is his enthusiasm on the pitch”.

Totti made Serie A history at the weekend, becoming the first player to take a ‘selfie’ during a match, after having scored the equaliser for the Giallorossi in the 2-2 draw with local rivals Lazio.
