Walter GarganoThe agent of Napoli midfielder Walter Gargano has confirmed his client wants to extend his current deal at the club.

The 30-year-old Uruguayan international was deemed surplus to requirements at the club in the summer, but has managed to work his way back into boss Rafael Benitez’s first team plans this season.

With his current deal expiring next year, Gargano is ready to reject interest from La Liga champions Atletico Madrid to prolong his stay at Napoli.

We knew that the return of Gargano to Napoli would not be easy, but for this Bigon and Benitez have always had an eye on this regard,” Pablo Boselli told Radio CRC.

“Walter realized that Napoli is his home and wants to return to the city all the love that has been shown to him.

“His intent to stay at Napoli. Indeed, we are dealing with Bigon for the renewal of the contract. God willing, we will renew as soon as possible, as his contract expires next year.

“Several clubs have asked for information. In particular Internacional and Atletico wanted Gargano and have also made offers, but the intention of the boy is staying in Napoli.”
