AC Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi revered his team’s quality of play following the 2-1 victory against Sassuolo on Tuesday evening.

The Rossoneri opened the scoring through Giampaolo Pazzini and then required a winner from Nigel De Jong in the dying moments, after Nicola Sansone levelled from the penalty spot, to progress to the quarter finals in the Coppa Italia.

“Tonight we had a great game: 16 shots on goal, 12 inside the box and one shot against the pole and bar each. I am very happy with the way we played and we must continue on this path,” Inzaghi told Rai Sport.

“We suffered a bit in the first half but scored a goal and had a shot against the post. If they are going to play with 10 men behind the ball, obviously it will not be easy.”

“All of the strikers had a great game; Pazzini, Cerci and El Sharaawy. Otherwise we would not have created the chances we did.”

Inzaghi also had special praise for his team’s character to win after conceding an equaliser on a dubious penalty.

“The team’s reaction was great because a penalty like that can bring down anyone but we have character, I can take comfort in the fact that my team will always give a 100%.”
