Udinese midfielder Panagiotis Kone has revealed that he remains satisfied with his team’s overall showing against Roma at home on Tuesday and believes that the Bianconeri deserved a draw.

The Zebrette fell 1-0 to the Giallorossi at the Stadio Friuli and the 27-year-old admits that the referees could have been more attentive to certain situations on the pitch, as there was a possible missed penalty call on the former Bologna man along with confusion surrounding the Lupi’s winning goal.

Kone spoke to Udinese Channel following the loss to Roma about Udinese’s determined performance throughout the game and commented on the disappointing result, while stating that a draw would have played a big part in raising the team’s confidence.

“We played an open game with a team that has devastating quality,” said the Greek international. “We knew that we could put them into trouble on the dribble.

“We played well even after they scored a goal, creating chances and making them suffer a bit. I thought we could have gotten level with them, it would have given us so much confidence.

“In the end the only regret is that the assistant referees weren’t given as much assistance to the main referee as needed. If there is no communication and no one takes responsibility then there is confusion.

“During the penalty situation involving me there was a referee close to see what happened, so if he hadn’t seen a foul then perhaps it wasn’t worthy of a penalty.

“Even Roma had created chances, but we were doing a lot of attacking in the last minutes of the match. We were well organised.

“We had close to a perfect game and to not draw in this match has been a really big regret.”
