Palermo midfielder Enzo Maresca has stated that his side’s goal remains survival despite being only four points away from a UEFA Europa League place.

The Rosanero played out a 1-1 draw with second placed Roma at the Stadio Renzo Barbera on Saturday night, and the former Juventus man has reiterated that the team’s goal remains survival.

“Our goal is still survival,” he told Sky. “This side is the same one which achieved promotion from Serie B last season.

“If we set a bigger goal, then something can go wrong; we aren’t experienced, and there are many teams more prepared than us.

“We are aiming to achieve the 40 point mark which will guarantee survival, then we’ll see what we can do.”

Maresca then went on to praise goalscorer Paulo Dybala and Franco Vazquez, as well as saying that Roma failed to threaten Stefano Sorrentino’s goal.

“Dybala and Vazquez are great players who have a big future ahead of them,” he said. “However, we mustn’t overload them with responsibilities.

“I don’t remember any notable chances for Roma, we achieved a draw against a great side.”

Palermo currently sit in 10th in the table with 26 points.
