Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic praised his side’s character to recover from the comprehensive defeat to Lazio on Monday as they secured a narrow victory over Empoli.

With the Azzurri arriving to the Luigi Ferraris unbeaten in eight they set up to frustrate the Blucerchiati, however, after a goalless first-half the hosts quickly rectified their early failings with Eder curling an effort round goalkeeper Luigi Sepe.

“Empoli are a good team, we have demonstrated the ability to react after the defeat on the last matchday,” Mihajlovic told Rai Sport.

“We won on merit, suffering, against a team that plays very well.

“We are fourth in the standings, I’m very happy. We continued to play the ball to feet, even if the ground does not help us.”

Despite the recent signing of Udinese striker Luis Muriel, the 45-year-old was questioned regarding speculation that Samuel Eto’o may arrive from Premier League side Everton.

“I will speak only [about signings] at the end of the transfer market,” confirmed Mihajlovic.
