New Sampdoria Luis Muriel spoke of his happiness at joining the Blucerchiati and the Colombian feels that the move can help revitalise his career.

Samp coach Sinisa Mihajlovic touted the attacker as the ideal replacement for Napoli’s Manolo Gabbiadini and the 23-year-old said he was delighted to move to a club where the coach was so eager to sign him.

“I am happy to be here, I have already received lots of affectionate messages from Blucerchiati fans,” said Muriel to Samp TV.

“Now I want to repay them for this affection on the pitch.”

“The boys are doing brilliantly and I’ve arrived to give them a hand as they look to achieve their objectives.

“I have a great desire to give my best and bring something new to this team that is already doing very well.”

Muriel said that Mihajlovic’s enthusiasm and eagerness to sign him influenced his decision.

“I spoke with him [Mihajlovic], he wanted me for a long time and I’m happy to be here.”

“I spoke with the coach and he made me understand how much he wanted me here.

“I will give 100 per cent every time I take to the pitch.”

The Colombian also said that Sampdoria are the kind of team he needed to join in order to progress in his career.

“Why did I join Sampdoria? Because they are the kind of team I needed to play for, it’s a team that is competing for important objectives, a team with history that can help me to do well.”

Muriel was finally asked if Champions League qualification is possible for fifth-placed Doria who are just one point behind Lazio in third.

“This Sampdoria team can dream of anything.”
