Parma have confirmed that their sporting director Pietro Leonardi has been taken to hospital due to stress.

The 51-year-old, who has been with the club since 2009, was rushed to the Casa di Cura privata Città di Parma after an illness on Sunday evening.

“Pietro Leonardi was hospitalized this morning and taken to the Casa di Cura privata Città di Parma under the advice of Prof. Giuseppe Salvi,” a statement from Parma read.

“Initial tests for a heart problem were negative. Dr. Massimo Moine has been with him since his arrival at the clinic and explained that his current condition was due to emotional stress.

“In the next few days the director will be subject to further investigation.”

Parma are currently three points adrift at the bottom of Serie A, and were beaten 2-1 but relegation rivals Cesena at home on Sunday.

Since then, star striker Antonio Cassano has rescinded his contract with the club and there has been speculation that coach Roberto Donadoni will be replaced.
