Sampdoria’s protracted move for former Inter star Samuel Eto’o is hinging on confirmation from Everton to release the player.

The Blucerchiati had identified the Champions League winner as an ideal candidate to reinforce their strike force following the departure of Manolo Gabbiadini to Napoli.

Negotiations have been on going for the past few weeks and it had appeared the deal was nearing a conclusion, however it appears that is not now the case.

“There was a meeting with Sampdoria president [Massimo] Ferrero but the deal is long and there is still work to be done,” the player’s agent commented to SportItalia.

“We also have to wait for the answer of the chairman of Everton.”

Eto’o spent two years in Serie A with Inter  helping them win a historic treble in 2010.
