Sampdoria have reportedly close to a deal to bring Everton striker Samuel Eto’o to the Stadio Ferraris with president Massimo Ferrero keen to do all he can to seal the transfer.

The Cameroonian looks set to arrive for a fee of 6 million after managing only 12 appearance for the Toffees so far this season, though he has already agreed an 18-month contract with Samp.

“We are working hard [on the deal] and I am in close contact with the coach,” Blucerchiati president Ferrero told Rai Sport,.

“If he asks me for something, I do everything to please him.

“Eto’o? I met the guy, he’s a champion.

“Champions League? I do not point to third place, I point to the moon. We are seven points ahead of Milan and Inter, but the competition is tough.”

Samp sit joint third with Napoli on the standings and will set off on their Coppa Italia adventure with a trip to the San Siro against Inter on Wednesday night.
