Samuel Eto’o’s proposed move from Everton to Sampdoria inches closer to fruition as the Italian club looks to offload Gonzalo Bergessio in order to raise funds.

The Cameroonian striker arrived at Merseyside in the summer after spending a season in London with Chelsea, and he has notched up four goals in 20 appearances for Everton so far.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Blucerchiati have turned their full attention to Eto’o after failing in their bid to land Udinese’s Luis Muriel, though president Massimo Ferrero will have to generate funds with Bergessio who has been pursued by Parma thought to be the first names on the way out.

Sinisa Mihajlovic has spoken to Eto’o reiterating his interest in the 33-year-old who scored 33 goals in 67 league appearances for Inter before moving to Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala where his salary of €20 million per season made him the then highest paid footballer in the world.
