Sampdoria are considering offloading goalkeeper Sergio Romero during the current January transfer window.

The Argentine has had a successful extended run in the team, but the return from injury of preferred custodian Emiliano Viviano to the starting line-up for Monday’s 3-0 defeat with Lazio has possibly left Romero surplus to requirements.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Genoa outfit may look to arrange a move for the 27-year-old Argentine, as they did in 2013/14 when Romero joined Monaco on loan.

Should Romero, who was first choice goalkeeper for for his country at the 2014 Brazil World Cup depart, then the Blucerchiati would pursue Juventus veteran Marco Storari as a back-up to Viviano.

The 37-year-old was on loan at the Marassi in 2010, and has made just a single appearance for the Serie A leaders this season.
