Despite defeat at Luigi Ferraris against Sampdoria ending his side’s eight match unbeaten run, Empoli coach Maurizio Sarri praised his side’s efforts on Sunday afternoon but admitted that they did not create enough chances to worry their hosts.

From the very first minute the Azzurri looked intent on avoiding defeat and largely limited the Blucerchiati to shots from distance, only for a wonderful curling effort just after the break from Brazilian Eder settling the match.

“The team played well, even though we have not had a lot of chances,” Sarri told Rai Sport.

“We went behind through a great goal from Eder and we reacted well but we could not equalise.

“The performance was there, we now think about the next match.

“Against Inter we will find a different team, not just because of their dealings in the transfer market when we play, but because we will face a team twice strengthened.”
