Modena and Virtus Lanciano shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Alberto Braglia wrapping up Week 23 in Serie B on Sunday afternoon.

Lanciano’s Gaetano Monachello opened the scoring in the second half with a left-footed shot just inside Carlo Pinsoglio’s near post and Francesco Fedato equalized five minutes before the final whistle to earn Modena their league leading seventh home draw.

Lanciano’s Mamma Thiam had the first scoring chance in the opening minute when he blazed down the right flank, drilled a hard shot which was blocked right into the path of the Senegalese striker but his follow up was blazed over the net and the visitors barely sniffed the Modena goal the rest of the first half.

Modena’s advantage in possession didn’t produce many scoring chances until late in the first half when Luca Garritano latched onto a cross and his shot was headed for the top shelf but was kept out by Nicolas whose leap and strong hands denied the hosts a deserved lead.

The Canarini’s chances began coming fast and furious after Garritano’s close call. First it was Francesco Fedato’s daisy cutter shot headed for the far post and then Modena countered quickly and worked the ball around the Lanciano defense before Garritano sized up a right-footed rocket from close range but Nicolas once again was equal to the task and the sides went into the dressing room scoreless.

The teams traded off excellent scoring chances in the first few minutes but the deadlock was finally lifted after 10 minutes when Thiam picked the pocket of Davide Zoboli and Monachello latched onto the loose ball and did well to create enough space to drive a shot past a diving Pinsoglio and gift the visitors a lead against the run of play on his sixth tally of the season.

Modena continued pressing and dominating possession but could not breakthrough a resolute Frentani defense until Pablo Granoche out jumped a Lanciano defender for a ball in the box and mishit a cross which nonetheless fell kindly to Fedato who, despite being surrounded by three Lanciano defenders, beat them all to the pass and scored past a helpless Nicolas to rescue a point for Walter Novellino’s men who deserved a better fate on the day.
