Andrea StramaccioniAfter a dramatic loss to Napoli in the Coppa Italia, Udinese coach Andrea Stramaccioni feels the referee’s decision to send off Silvan Widmer was harsh.

The Zebrette went down to ten-men after the 68th minute due to Widmer collecting his second yellow card, though Udinese fought back to tie the match 2-2 in extra time, only to fall in a penalty shootout 5-4.

“Questions remain after reviewing the video [of the sending off], I consider Widmer’s second yellow card to be excessive, but I don’t want controversy, it’s our only regret,” Stramaccioni told the press.

“After the red [card] we had a difficult period, but even with ten [men] we defended well and didn’t concede as other teams might have.”

“I respect Napoli and their proactive way of playing football, they are among the best, but we took to the field well and held our own.

“I was told that the worst thing was to go to penalties and lose. The good thing is that the team gave everything on the pitch, but Napoli took excellent penalties.”
