FIGC chief Carlo Tavecchio believes that goal-line technology will be adopted in Serie A for the 2015-16 season.

The FIGC met to discuss implementing the technology and initial discussions were positive with Tavecchio confident that it will be introduced sooner rather than later.

“This morning’s meeting began a journey that will take us to the application of goal-line technology in our country during the predicted time-frame,” said Tavecchio to the press after the FIGC’s meeting in Rome on January 14.

“I am convinced that its use, starting from next season, will be unavoidable.”

Director general of the football association Michele Uva, Serie A’s director general Marco Brunelli, Serie B president Andrea Abodi and president of the referee’s association Marcello Nicchi were all present at the meeting to discuss possible rule changes.

The idea of Goal-line technology has previously been given support in Italy amongst clubs and officials although doubts remain about how it will be financed.
