Udinese defender Maurizio Domizzi would like an opportunity to step into the striker’s role and lend a hand to the suddenly thin Friulani attack.

After the departure of Luis Muriel to Sampdoria and the potential long-term injury suffered by Alexandre Geijo in Saturday’s match against Sassuolo, the Zebrette find themselves with only Toto Di Natale and Cyril Thereau to lead the line.

“I played there before, a long time ago. I’d like to, I can’t hide it,” the 34-year old defender said in an interview with Sky Sport Italia after Udinese’s 1-1 draw.

Colombian Luis Muriel was allowed to leave for Sampdoria in a €12 million transfer after showing only glimpses of his exceptional talent, but now coach Andrea Stramaccioni finds himself in a terrible predicament and the club must quickly find a solution.

Domizzi believes a variety of factors contributed to Muriel’s inability to settle during his four plus years at Udinese.

“It’s a question a lot of people have asked and maybe it was a matter of too many expectations and he didn’t have the right character to accept it.”
