Antonio Conte could resign as coach of the Italy national team, putting AC Milan on alert.

Last week, Conte was forced to call off a mid-season training programme with the Azzurri after Serie A clubs decided not to release their players. He is set to meet with FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio to find a solution.

The result of that meeting could affect AC Milan. According to Tuttosport, the Rossoneri are still pondering a coaching change, and Conte is at the top of their wish list.

The 3-1 loss to Juventus at the weekend raised fresh doubts over Filippo Inzaghi’s future with AC Milan, who are currently sitting 10th in Serie A.

Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the former Juventus manager, whose first choice is reportedly the French club.

A possible agreement with Juventus may also prohibit Conte from coaching any other Italian club over the next two seasons, throwing yet another obstacle in AC Milan’s way.

The alternative for Milan is Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella. He has a contract with the Tuscan club until 2017.
