Genoa would be looking to release defender Luca Antonini after failing to move him on the January transfer deadline day.

Genoa looked to have a deal to transfer Antonini to Watford, but the defender refused and thus caused the move to collapse.

The reports of Genoa’s pending decision to release Antonini come from Gazzetta dello Sport. In the meantime, the player’s agent Federico Pastorello has come out saying that they are still awaiting news from the club.

“The hope is that everything could get cleared up and resolved,” Pastorello said.

“Especially given the affection the player feels for the city as well as the affections of Genoa for Antonini when he helped during the floods.

“But at the moment the situation seems highly compromised.”

Luca Antonini has made seven Serie A appearances for Genoa and scored one goal for the Grifone.
