Lazio defender Dusan Basta has admits that the three points earned in his team’s 1-0 win over Udinese on Sunday are an important step forward in the Aquilotti’s fight to secure a top five finish this season.

The Biancocelesti’s victory against the Zebrette has allowed them to keep a hold on fifth place in the Serie A standings for now, though the 30-year-old insists that the capital city club are not worried about their ranking and are only taking things one game at a time.

Basta spoke to both Sky Sport Italia and Mediaset Premium following the positive result in Udine about Lazio’s performance and their goals for the season, while also commenting on the love he continues to receive from everyone at his former club Udinese.

“I can say that this game was a bit special for me because I spent five years playing at Udinese, which had been great,” said the Serbian international. “This is my home.

“During my return here I’ve found many friends and other people that were close to me and they have shown me the same affection as before.

“We knew it would be difficult to win here, especially after two defeats, but the important thing is that we managed to win and secure the three points.

“We started the game well and it ended in our favour thanks to the penalty, which is all that matters. Once you gain the lead things become a bit easier.

“Are we trying to reach third place? There’s still a lot of time left in the season, we’re taking things one game at a time and hope to continue like this.

“Our goal is to return to Europe, but we’re remaining humble and plan on giving our all until the end of the season.”
